Theater Arts, Cabaret, Showdance
Thearter Arts, Cabaret, and Showdance are all in which lifts and drags (an act in which both of the ladies feet can be off of the ground, or her partner carries all of her weight) are not only allowed, but in many cases encouraged.
Theater Arts
Within the "Theater Arts" catagory, lifts are allowed for no more than half of the measures of music. Within this style, there must be a recognizable dance for the other half of the routine.
In the original Theater Arts competitions the music was picked for you, and all the couples competed on the floor together, much like you would for Rhythm or Smooth.
Cabaret
In "Cabaret" there is no limit to the number of lifts allowed.
Recognizable Ballroom dance, nor recognizable ballroom music are not required.
Showdance, Classical (Ballroom)
Showdance differs from the other catagories because throughout the entirety of the dance, only three lifts are permited.
Within the "Showdance" catagory, there are two divisons.
the first is the Classical, or Ballroom Showdance. Dances include Waltz, Tango, Vieaneese Waltz, Foxtrot, and Quickstep.
Showdance, Latin American
The main difining character of "Showdance" is you are limited to only three lifts in the entirety of the routine.
Within the Latan American Showdance, Dances allowed are Cha Cha Cha, Samba, Paso Doble, Jive, Rumba.
